Workout

People often make the mistake of setting workout goals that are too hard for them to achieve. Thus, a lot of those who exercise fail because of their own impossible goals. Still, there are also those who overdo the exercise so that they could pass the goals set - only for them to be overtraining themselves with no significant benefits. In fitness training, it is always important to do the right exercises at the right intensity and according to the individual's needs and realistic goals. Although this might seem to be impossible, with a personal trainer, one can learn which is realistic or right and which is not.

How to Set a Goal

In setting a goal, one must consider why he or she is doing the exercise anyway. That means that one should rank which of the following goals need to come first:

  • Muscle gain/bodybuilding
  • Health
  • Fat loss
  • Conditioning
  • Strength
  • Esthetics
  • Other purposes.

When one knows which of these goals need to be prioritized, the right routines and exercises could be planned. Also, the correct weights can be used with the correct number of repetitions. Often, it is better to have a professional trainer plan the workout routines to successfully reap its benefits. These professionals will know how to create goals that are proportional to each individual's capabilities and requirements.

If the main aim of the workout is to lose extra weight (due to fats), one should make a numerical goal - that is, how much weight should be expended. However, to make the goal realistic and attainable, one could start with a low number, say 5 to 10 pounds in a certain number of months. As each goal is reached, one can then try to push for another numerical goal until the final, desired weight loss is achieved.

How should the activity be done?

Different people have different needs as well as preferences. Because of this, each individual may find a certain exercise routine effective while another might find it ineffective or too easy/too difficult. Also, the level that the person is in terms of exercising should also be considered. For instance, circuit training - involves high intensity aerobics combined with resistance training - is definitely not for beginners.

Where to Workout

Again, going with the thought above, one person can workout at home or at the public gym - this matter depends upon the individual's capability to own a home gym.
